"I believe that under the thin veneer of culture all people are the same, with the same wish for respect and happiness. I think we intuitively recognize these commonalities in one another, yet somehow things get misunderstood and tangled up.

We all change one another with our interactions, we change the places we inhabit. People and physical locations intersect for a brief time, their narratives interweave, then they go their separate ways. Different, changed.

I think of my paintings as being like remembered dreams- visually crisp but emotionally mysterious and meaningful. I want the viewer to intuitively decode what is happening or who has inhabited the space."                                - Karen Visser
